Microscopic switching arrays for mobile communication
Fraunhofer ISIT has developed a MEMS switch with a diameter of only 160 µm. It is one of the key components for energy efficiency in mobile radio systems. In a miniaturized network of highly precise capacitive and inductive components this is a future innovative component for perfect impedance matching of the antenna amplifier at constantly changing operating conditions. To achieve contact resistances of less than 1 W within a fast control loop, a bi-directional piezoelectric actuator produces high contact forces. Turned off the active reset function separates the connection reliably.
