Stuttgart: June 28 - June 30, 2022
Battery Show Europe brings together more than 10,500 industry experts and more than 500 leading suppliers for a unique event that strengthens existing relationships and forges new partnerships. This gives you the opportunity to network with key players across the battery, electric and hybrid technology supply chain and discuss your questions and ideas.
Fraunhofer ISIT will present the following main topics at Battery Show Europe 2022:
Rapid Prototyping
Two decades of R&D and battery cell development have enhanced our capabilities to quickly respond to customer requests for cell prototypes and small series. Connected directly to your applications, our specialists are experts in precisely matching device and material requirements, formulations, cell design, and functionalities that enhance the customer experience for your applications.
Our offerings range from rugged battery cells in high-performance, high-pressure and high-temperature designs, to flexible variants in a variety of form factors, to smart cells for low-volume production.
Dry Coating
The production of heavy-duty electrodes is a promising approach to increase the energy density of Li-ion batteries due to a favorable ratio of active to inactive materials. However, modern tape casting processes with relatively high solvent content are limited in terms of film thickness and drying process, and are accompanied by undesirable effects such as binder migration. Therefore, advanced processes for electrode fabrication are urgently needed.
Fraunhofer ISIT has developed a dry coating process that does not require any solvents at all. Drying of the coated electrode slurry is an energy-intensive process. It also requires a large amount of space, as long drying distances are necessary for an optimal process result. The dry coating process developed by Fraunhofer ISIT eliminates the need for solvents.
In addition, higher loadings are possible that exceed the range of conventional electrodes. This leads to significant cost savings and is more environmentally friendly.
Appearances and lectures
Our expert Jannes Ophey will speak on Wednesday, June 29 from 15:30 to 16:10 on the topic of "Investigating the potential of dry electrode coating in terms of speed, efficiency and cost; determining the timeframe for commercial application."
The following points will be explored:
- Detailing the drivers for sustainable dry coating processes for battery electrodes.
- Outline the limitations of current manufacturing techniques for highly stressed electrodes in terms of coating thickness and drying processes
- Determination of the timeframe for commercial applications
